It's automatic every Monday and Tuesday during the Nebraska baseball season. High school baseball fans from all corners of the state login to their computers hoping the school they are loyal to moved up in the rankings, took over the top spot or made the climb into the rankings.
But what about the national rankings? Oh what a coup that would be, to find your alma mater alongside traditional powers Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.), IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) or Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, Calif.). Heck, landing a Top 100 ranking would be pretty cool, too.
Video: Top 25 baseball rankingsSee who the nation's No. 1 team is. Well, this week we did that work for you. Scouring through the MaxPreps National Rankings, we unearthed the current national ranking for each member of Nebraska's Top 10 baseball teams.
While the Cornhusker State is not represented in the Top 25, top-ranked Millard West did crack the Top 100 at No. 98. Elkhorn South, Nebraska's No. 2 club, is now a member of the Top 625 at No. 621 and Waverly improved 168 spots from last Friday's rankings to 1,033rd nationally. Lincoln Southwest and Grand Island round out the Top 5 at 1,308th and 1,581st respectively out of the 12,941 schools that now reside in MaxPreps' national baseball rankings database.
Eight Cornhusker State schools made this week's Top 2000 nationally and every member of this week's Top 10 is ranked in the nation's Top 2,150. Of the members of this week's Top 10, Lincoln Southwest made the largest climb nationally over last Friday, improving 508 spots to 1,308th. We used Tuesday's rankings for this week's Top 10. As you browse through the Top 10, listed on the top line is the name of the school, its won-loss record in parentheses and the school's MaxPreps power ranking. On the second line we listed the number of spots the school improved or dropped nationally compared to last Friday's MaxPreps' National Rankings.
