DeSoto Central has won eight straight games at home, while Hernando has won eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Jaguars will host the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Monday, DeSoto Central made easy work of Southaven and carried off an 11-1 victory.
Makayla Jamison made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, DeSoto Central let Londen Armstrong and Colby Young run wild. Armstrong scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Young scored a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Young has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Hudson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Hernando faced Lewisburg in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Tigers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Patriots an 8-0 shutout. Give the Tigers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Not much got past Haylee Jackson, who gave up just eight hits to keep Lewisburg off the board.
On the hitting side, Macie Dever Boaz and Olivia Higginbotham did most of the damage at the plate: Dever Boaz went 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base, while Higginbotham scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Jayla Sites was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
DeSoto Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 17 of their last 18 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Hernando, their victory bumped their record up to 25-1.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. DeSoto Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like Hernando struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
DeSoto Central skirted past Hernando 2-0 in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
