Softball Recap: Maliyah Smith Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Utica Eisenhower

St. Clair won the last time they faced Utica Eisenhower and things went their way on Saturday too. The Saints' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 12-0 shutout. The Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

Gracie Pickelhaupt made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Maliyah Smith was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to triples, as she's now hit at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Madisyn Treat, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

St. Clair was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .524. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in five consecutive games.

St. Clair's record is now 11-2. As for Utica Eisenhower, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
