Ben Werner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex McClelland, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Ethan Quinn was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Easthampton/Hampshire made easy work of Palmer on Wednesday and carried off a 12-2 victory.
Patrick Larson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Easthampton/Hampshire's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Kostek, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Easthampton/Hampshire kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.
Pioneer Valley Regional pushed their record up to 16-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Easthampton/Hampshire, their win bumped their record up to 6-11.
Easthampton/Hampshire's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pioneer Valley Regional hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. It's a different story for Easthampton/Hampshire, though, as they've only averaged .239. Will they be able to contain Pioneer Valley Regional's hitters?
Pioneer Valley Regional took their victory against Easthampton/Hampshire in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 13-0 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
