Softball Recap: Westbrook Wins Going Away Against Deering

Westbrook had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Deering on Monday. The Blue Blazes were the clear victors by a 17-4 margin over the Rams. This was payback for the Blue Blazes, who suffered a 14-13 loss the last time these two teams met.

Westbrook let Avery Childs and Emma Boulette run wild. Childs went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Boulette got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave Childs a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josie Christensen, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.

Westbrook hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters every time they've taken the field this season.

Westbrook now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Deering, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Westbrook will take on rival Massabesic at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Deering is set to challenge their familiar foe South Portland at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
