Bruce and the Vikings are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2015, but not for long. The Bruce Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the North Pontotoc Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with seven consecutive losses for Bruce and four for the Vikings.
Last Tuesday, Bruce took a serious blow against the Falcons, falling 67-29. Bruce was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-15.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ashton Pierce, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and five blocks.
Bruce struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, North Pontotoc came up short against the Bulldogs on Monday and fell 60-51. While losing is never fun, North Pontotoc can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 80th).
Bruce has not been sharp recently as the team's lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season. As for North Pontotoc, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-18.
Bruce was able to grind out a solid victory over the Vikings in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 57-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bruce since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
