Piner is 0-6 against Montgomery since March of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Prospectors will welcome the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Montgomery will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Piner extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Prospectors' pitcher stepped up to hand St. Vincent de Paul a 7-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Prospectors, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Cambria Weerts was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mialynn Membrilla, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Genavieve De Mauro, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Piner kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Montgomery). They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over Elsie Allen on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by exactly ten runs.
Like Piner, Montgomery also got a great game from a two-way player: Quinn Matel. She struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Matel was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Laela Shimon was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Siena Quattrocchi, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
The victory made it two in a row for Montgomery and bumps their season record up to 5-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Piner, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
Montgomery's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Piner has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Montgomery, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Piner keep running through batters, or will the Vikings buck the trend?
Piner might still be hurting after the 15-1 loss they got from Montgomery in their previous meeting back in March of 2019. Will the Prospectors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
