The Morgan Academy Senators's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by Bessemer Academy at home and fell 77-48. While losing is never fun, Morgan Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while the Rebels are ranked 79th).
Morgan Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was CJ Christopher Williams, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Barron Frazer, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Leading Bessemer Academy to victory were JJ Jeter and Joshua Thompson. Jeter scored 17 points along with four steals, while Thompson scored 12 points along with six rebounds and six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thompson has scored all season. Johnathan Winston was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals and two blocks.
Morgan Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Bessemer Academy, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 19-1.
Morgan Academy will square off against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bessemer Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Volunteers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Monroe Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
