SouthWest Edgecombe walked away with a 55-48 victory over North Lenoir on Tuesday. Given SouthWest Edgecombe's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while North Lenoir is ranked 373rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead SouthWest Edgecombe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Moore Mackenzie, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was A'Chonacey (Chonie) Mabry, who scored 15 points along with five steals.
When it comes to explaining why North Lenoir lost, one person who can't be blamed is Shamaya Lynch. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points. Lynch scored a full 33.3% of North Lenoir's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. JayShaynna Kittrell was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
SouthWest Edgecombe's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for North Lenoir, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. SouthWest Edgecombe will take on Fike at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Fike will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for North Lenoir, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ayden - Grifton at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Ayden - Grifton is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
