Vanguard College Prep struggled with assists on Tuesday (Big Valley Christian had 1800% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Vanguard College Prep was dealt a 99-31 loss at the hands of Big Valley Christian. Vanguard College Prep was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 53-20.
Despite the defeat, Vanguard College Prep saw an underclassman step up: Gustavo Mora scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Muriithi, who scored 5 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Elliot Christian had to hit the road for their first game and sadly it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They were just a bucket shy of victory two weeks ago and fell 49-48 to Stockton Christian.
Despite their loss, Elliot Christian saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jeremy Nielsen, who scored 15 points along with 8 rebounds and 5 assists, was perhaps the best of all. Jayden Gaither was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with 9 rebounds and 6 blocks.
Ceres' win bumped their season record to 0-0 while Vanguard College Prep's defeat dropped theirs to 0-1.
Vanguard College Prep beat Elliot Christian 62-52 when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Will Vanguard College Prep repeat their success, or does Elliot Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
