Baseball Game Preview: Boardman Spartans vs. South Range Raiders

The Boardman Spartans will face off against the South Range Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Range took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Boardman, who comes in off a win.

Boardman came out on top against John F. Kennedy Catholic on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run third inning. The Spartans blew past the Eagles 11-1. Considering the Spartans have won four matches by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

John F. Kennedy Catholic's batters probably weren't too happy with Collin Resetar, who pitched a no hitter (he gave up a single walk). Resetar has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Grayson Eicher was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Vince Butto, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for South Range's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hubbard on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Raiders in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost five in a row.

The victory made it two in a row for Boardman and bumps their season record up to 9-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for South Range, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
