Sayre extended their losing streak to 13 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-13. They lost 16-2 to the Cowanesque Valley Indians. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 last Saturday.
Sayre saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley McGaughey, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for Cowanesque Valley, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.1 runs over those games.
On Cowanesque Valley's side, Dave Hess and Ayren Morgan made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Hess tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Morgan pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Hess went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Morgan went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Morgan has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Cowanesque Valley got a massive performance out of Lucas Hamilton, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that Hamilton has launched this season. William Kies was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Sayre will square off against Wyalusing Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.14 runs per game on average), something the Redskins will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cowanesque Valley, they will face off against Athens at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
