Two dominant signal callers in Elijiah Oehlke and Javier Rice are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Trinity Christian Crusaders will be playing at home against the Asheville Christian Academy Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Trinity Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Asheville Christian Academy likes a good challenge.
Trinity Christian put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Harrells Christian Academy, posting a 43-14 win at home. Given Trinity Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 146th, while Harrells Christian Academy is ranked 327th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Trinity Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Xayden Watson out in front who rushed for 12 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 54 yards and a touchdown on only two passes. Lavarion Peoples was in the mix too, providing Trinity Christian with two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Trinity Christian's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Christian Goins and Isaiah Moore who racked up four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Asheville Christian Academy had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victor by a 47-27 margin over SouthLake Christian Academy.
Rice was his usual excellent self, throwing for 446 yards and six touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Rice is on a roll when it comes to passing yards, as he's now passed for 300 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Holmes, who picked up 63 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Trinity Christian's victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-6 Sandhills T and 0-4 Beacon Hill HomeSchool (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 24.7% over those games). As for Asheville Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 3-7.
