Cedar Valley is 0-3 against Salem Hills since March of 2024 but things could change on Tuesday. The Aviators will venture away from home to challenge the Skyhawks at 3:30 p.m. Cedar Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Cedar Valley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Westlake, who was ranked 11th at the time (Cedar Valley was ranked 24th). The Aviators took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thunder on Friday.
Eva Okusi and Alexis Jenson did some serious damage despite the final result: Okusi went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs, while Jenson went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Jeslyn Collins was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Salem Hills entered their tilt with Manti on Saturday with 13 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 14. They put the hurt on the Templars with a sharp 17-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Skyhawks, who have now won ten matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Keyana Murray made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).
In other batting news, Jocile Norman was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Katey Keel also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Salem Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.
Cedar Valley's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Salem Hills, their record now sits at 17-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Cedar Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Salem Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Cedar Valley suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Salem Hills in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Aviators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
