Laguna Beach extended the longest winning streak in Orange Coast this week by beating Godinez, 42-13. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Breakers.
Costa Mesa took down Calvary Chapel 64-22 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Larry Stewart and Nathan Lancaster gave Laguna Beach a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Stewart threw for 217 yards and three touchdowns, while Lancaster ran for 118 yards. Teammate Drake Martinez added to the ground attack by rushing for 103 yards.
Brian Hernandez was the best wideout in the league this week as Godinez fell to Michael Churchill's team. Hernandez tallied seven receptions for 108 yards. Pedro Leon helped Godinez's passing attack out by catching one ball for nine yards.
6-foot-3 quarterback Colin Kearon of the Eagles is the league leader in passing yards this season with 936. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. On the ground, the Breakers' Martinez has rushed for 1018 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Markiece Traylor. The Costa Mesa star has 26 catches for 539 yards.
Estancia's Robert Murtha is a mere 83 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 158 carries Murtha has accumulated 917 yard this year.
A big matchup in Orange Coast this week will be when the Mustangs take on Laguna Beach. Costa Mesa is currently in third, while the Breakers are in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Wally Grant's team takes on Laguna Beach. The Mustangs have allowed 152 points this season, while the Breakers have given up 139. Costa Mesa allowed 22 points last week as it defeated D J Jett's team.
There should be lots of points scored when the Mustangs and Laguna Beach face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Costa Mesa comes in having scored 196 this season, while the Breakers have scored 457. The Mustangs scored 64 points last week as they topped the Eagles.
The Eagles made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,638 from 7,920. The improvement was the result of 40-7 victory over Saddleback last week.
