The Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They suffered a tough 72-48 defeat at the hands of Burlington. The match was a close 38-35 at the break, but unfortunately for Genoa-Hugo/Karval it sure didn't stay that way.
Despite the loss, Genoa-Hugo/Karval still got an impressive performance from Trey Smith, who scored 26 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Dane Lockhart, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Burlington had a senior duo take command as Daniel Chacon dropped a double-double on 20 points and 21 rebounds and Keziah Williams scored 26 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Williams continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Adan Lopez-Mitchell, who scored ten points.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-6. As for Burlington, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Cheyenne Wells at 4:00 p.m. on January 20th. Cheyenne Wells is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games. Burlington on the road again on Friday and play against Flagler at 4:00 p.m. on January 26th.
