The Avon Lake Shoremen will venture away from home to square off against the St. Joseph Academy Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Avon Lake barely beat Elyria the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Shoremen were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Pioneers on Thursday. The Shoremen's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Emerson Burgess made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Burgess was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, Carmen McMinn was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Sammy Cracas was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Avon Lake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elyria only posted a batting average of .250.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph Academy came into Tuesday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Villa Angela-St. Joseph on Tuesday as they made off with a 17-1 victory. Considering the Jaguars' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
St. Joseph Academy got a massive performance out of Amelia Reyes, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Elizabeth Gus, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and four RBI.
St. Joseph Academy picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-3. As for Avon Lake, their record now sits at an identical 2-3.
Everything went Avon Lake's way against St. Joseph Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Avon Lake made off with a 10-4 victory. Will the Shoremen repeat their success, or do the Jaguars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
