Meek hasn't had much luck against Winston County recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Yellowjackets at 4:30 p.m. Meek will be strutting in after a win while Winston County will be coming in after a defeat.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Tuesday. Meek had just enough and edged out Brilliant 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Meek has posted since March 11th.
Sadi Farley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Anna Collins, who scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Molli Sandlin, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Winston County didn't have quite enough to beat Hubbertville on Wednesday and fell 11-10.
Chasty Garrison made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Ella Kennedy was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meek pushed their record up to 10-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Winston County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-6 record this season.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Meek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .428. However, it's not like Winston County struggles in that department as they've averaged .392. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Meek was able to grind out a solid win over Winston County in their previous meeting back in March, winning 15-11. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Yellowjackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
