Newport has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Newport Buffaloes and the Greenwood Wildcats will round out the year against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Newport came up short against Midd-West and fell 51-38. Newport has struggled against Midd-West recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Landon Zaring, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryder Wands, who scored five points.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Greenwood's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 41-31 to Line Mountain. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Greenwood has scored all season.
Newport bumped their record down to 2-5 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Greenwood, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
Newport was taken down by Greenwood 59-29 in their previous meeting back in February. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Newport was down 35-13.
