The Whitmire Wolverines lost against the C.A. Johnson Hornets back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Whitmire took a serious blow against C.A. Johnson, falling 38-6. It was the first time this season that Whitmire let down their fans at home.
Blake Stribble threw for 81 yards and a touchdown while completing 78.6% of his passes. On the ground, Ashton Nelson rushed for 42 yards.
C.A. Johnson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caleb Pearson, who rushed for 297 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.5 yards per carry. Pearson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 67 yards. Another player making a difference was Anthony Brooks, who rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Whitmire to a paltry 214 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to C.A. Johnson's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Whitmire's QB won't forget Jeremiah Miller anytime soon given Miller sacked him six times.
Whitmire has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for C.A. Johnson, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whitmire will square off against Calhoun County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Calhoun County will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last. As for C.A. Johnson, they will head out on the road to face off against Wagener-Salley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wagener-Salley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully C.A. Johnson likes a good challenge.
