Salesian hasn't had much luck against Fordham Prep recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Salesian Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Fordham Prep Rams at 7:00 p.m. Salesian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.2 points per game this season.
Last Sunday, Salesian was able to grind out a solid win over LaSalle Academy, taking the game 69-61. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
It was another big night for Julien Wiggins, who made all 9 shots he took racking up 25 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Salesian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevaughn Mitchell, who made all 8 shots he took to post 16 points.
Meanwhile, Fordham Prep posted their biggest victory since December 10, 2024 on Tuesday. They blew past LaSalle Academy 65-40. The Rams pushed the score to 53-24 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cardinals cut but never quite recovered from.
Salesian better keep an eye on Brian Kapfer. He was instrumental in Fordham Prep's win, going 7 of 14 on his way to 20 points and seven assists. Kapfer's afternoon made it 12 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Toomer, who went 5 of 6 on his way to 13 points.
Fordham Prep was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Salesian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Fordham Prep, their record is now 7-5.
Friday's match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Wiggins and Kapfer. Wiggins has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 22.2 points on 54.4% shooting. For his part, Kapfer has averaged 22.1 points and 2.7 steals.
Salesian ended up a good deal behind Fordham Prep in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, losing 71-53. Can Salesian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
