The Hanover-Horton Comets will venture away from home to face off against the Lincoln Railsplitters at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hanover-Horton will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Hanover-Horton proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Bronson a 2-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Comets have posted since May 18, 2024.
Alexyn DuBois made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lincoln). They were the clear victors by a 22-0 margin over Huron on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Railsplitters in their matchups with the River Rats: they've now won eight in a row.
Like Hanover-Horton, Lincoln also got a great game from a two-way player: Alyssa Strickland. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Strickland was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with four runs and one RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on McKaylie Kern, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those stolen bases were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Pinter, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Lincoln was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Lincoln pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 14.2 runs this season. As for Hanover-Horton, their record is now 7-1.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hanover-Horton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .408. However, it's not like Lincoln struggles in that department as they've averaged .482. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
