In what's become a running theme this season, the Mead Mavericks gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They blew past Silver Creek 60-16 on the road. Given Mead's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Silver Creek is ranked 147th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mead got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gianna Wurth out in front who scored nine points along with four steals. Elena Gomez was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Silver Creek still got an impressive performance from Izzy Spagnoletti, who scored 11 points along with five steals. That was a full 68.8% of Silver Creek's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Mead pushed their record up to 10-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Silver Creek, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Mead will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Centaurus at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Centaurus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Thursday. As for Silver Creek, they will head out on the road to take on Windsor at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Windsor is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
