Football Recap: Greenwood Starts Season with Win on the Road

Greenwood had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They took their match on Friday with ease, bagging a 38-8 win over the Seymour Owls. This was payback for the Woodmen, who suffered a 23-20 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Greenwood's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Benjamin Hommell, who picked up 98 receiving yards and one touchdown. That's the most receiving yards Hommell has posted since back in September of 2024. Orlando Johnson made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Greenwood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 268 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 191 rushing yards in five consecutive games dating back to last season.

Greenwood didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Johnson and Henry Wood. Johnson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greenwood will head out to face off against Indian Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Seymour, they are headed away from home for the first time to take on Jeffersonville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Owls' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
