Basketball Recap: Union Academy Continues Home Dominance on Friday

While Union Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 46-36 win over the Central Eagles on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cardinals.

Union Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sam Additon, who posted eight points along with 23 boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Additon a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Heath Lunsford, who almost dropped a double-double on ten rebounds and nine blocks.

Union Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

When it comes to explaining why Central lost, don't look at Aiden Short. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards. Tazhir Webber was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Union Academy pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Central, they moved to 5-6 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Union Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-39 victory against Cheraw on the 27th. As for Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 71-61 loss against McBee on the 26th.
