Madison-Grant and Alexandria-Monroe are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Argylls will take on the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Madison-Grant will be strutting in after a win while Alexandria-Monroe will be coming in after a defeat.
Madison-Grant barely beat Maconaquah the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Argylls' pitcher stepped up to hand the Braves a 6-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Argylls have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Luke Gilman, who gave up just three hits to keep Maconaquah off the board. Gilman has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Madison-Grant got a big performance out of Xavier Yeagy, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI Yeagy has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Nelson, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Alexandria-Monroe fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Hamilton Heights on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 4-3. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Grayson Gaines was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits.
At the plate, Adrian Smith was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Trevor Martin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Alexandria-Monroe's loss dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Madison-Grant, their victory bumped their record up to 15-10.
Madison-Grant was able to grind out a solid win over Alexandria-Monroe when the teams last played back in April, winning 7-4. Do the Argylls have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
