Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Division I recap Sept. 26, 2012
Cody Busby of South ran for the longest rushing play in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Division I this season against Haysville Campus last week. Busby ran for 65 yards on the play and finished with 178 on the day as his team topped the Colts.
Maize moved up to 56 from 84 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles were able to make the jump by beating Goddard 62-19.
Hutchinson's dynamic duo of Turner Wintz and Evan Gaines-Grissom proved tough for Newton to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wintz threw for 109 yards and one touchdown and Gaines-Grissom had 65 yards receiving. Emilio Tafolla helped Hutchinson's passing attack out by catching one ball for 25 yards.
Ross Anderson made the biggest impact on defense this week as Haysville Campus lost to South. The 5-foot-11 senior grabbed one sack.
Mike Schartz's team's John Becker and J.T. Harlamon have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Becker has thrown for 594 yards this season, while Harlamon, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 16 catches for 242 yards. Busby from Sam Sellers's team leads the league in rushing with 531 yards.
The marquee game in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Division I this week will be the clash between the Cougars and the Salt Hawks. South enters the game ranked eighth in the state, while Hutchinson ranks sixth.
There should be lots of points scored when the Cougars and Randy Dreiling's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, South comes in having scored 134 this season, while the Salt Hawks have scored 183. The Cougars scored 49 points last week as they bested the Colts.
South was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Haysville Campus 49-7. The Cougars came in at 8 in the state poll after placing at number 30 last week.
