The Point Loma Pointers will face off against the San Diego Cavers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Point Loma will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
On Friday, Point Loma took their contest with ease, bagging a 37-7 win over La Jolla. Given the Pointers' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Vikings are ranked 239th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Point Loma's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Romeo Carter led the charge by picking up 70 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Carter is also on a roll when it comes to receiving touchdowns, as he's now hauled in two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Braden Lane handled things on the ground, rushing for 80 yards.
Point Loma's run defense was locked in: La Jolla could only muster 1.6 yards per carry. The team can thank Ace Selchow for the heroic effort on defense: he. Point Loma's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.9.

Meanwhile, San Diego fought the good fight in their overtime game against Rancho Bernardo on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 23-16 to the Broncos. Despite 51 more yards than the Broncos, the Cavers couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Point Loma will have to keep a close watch on Jayden Harris and Jayden Johnson, a pair of players who had a big impact on San Diego's prior game. Harris threw for 138 yards and one touchdown, while Johnson rushed for 84 yards.
Even if they lost, San Diego's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Esteban Herrera refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself.
Having lost for the first time this season, San Diego fell to 4-1. As for Point Loma, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Everything came up roses for Point Loma against San Diego in their previous meeting back in September of 2023, as the squad secured a 50-7 win. In that matchup, the Pointers amassed a halftime lead of 37-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
