The Covenant Day Lions will venture away from home to challenge the Oceanside Collegiate Academy Landsharks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Covenant Day sitting on five straight victories and Oceanside Collegiate Academy on 17 (dating back to last season).
Covenant Day had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Goose Creek on Monday. Covenant Day put the hurt on Goose Creek with a sharp 15-0 win. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.
Mikey Scaletta was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Zeb Engstrom was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Austin Price also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Covenant Day always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Oceanside Collegiate Academy had just enough and edged out Beaufort 4-3 on Monday.
Tyler Mellison looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Scott Henry, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Aiden Brusman, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Oceanside Collegiate Academy pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Covenant Day, their record is now 7-1.
