The Gibsonburg Golden Bears put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past St. Joseph Central Catholic with points to spare, taking the game 54-37. Given Gibsonburg's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while St. Joseph Central Catholic is ranked 669th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gibsonburg got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Elly Evarts out in front who scored 21 points along with six assists and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Evarts has scored at least 25% of Gibsonburg's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazmyne Morant, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Gibsonburg pushed their record up to 6-0 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for St. Joseph Central Catholic, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
Gibsonburg will be home for the holidays to greet Old Fort at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for St. Joseph Central Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Hopewell-Loudon at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
