ANAHEIM, Calif. - After taking the lead in the fourth quarter,
Esperanza (Anaheim, Calif.) held on for a 14-13 victory over
Foothill (Santa Ana, Calif.) on Saturday. The difference for the Aztecs was that
Connor McKeen ran for a touchdown.
The score was knotted at seven heading into the half. The Aztecs took the lead for good on a touchdown run by McKeen in the fourth quarter.
The loss snapped Foothill's eight-game winning streak.
Esperanza entered the contest giving up 20.3 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding the Knights well below their season average of 21.9 points scored per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Foothill took, 38-10.
The defeat comes as a step back for Foothill, which notched a 21-19 victory over Canyon in its previous outing. The win was a nice bounce back for the Anaheim school, which lost to Villa Park last week, 32-20.
