Fleming Island and Keystone Heights are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. Mallory Blackwell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Olivia Sikes, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Anisten Kurlander, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Sikes wasn't the only one making solid contact: Fleming Island kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The Golden Eagles are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Keystone Heights was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Oakleaf, falling 11-1.
Keystone Heights saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amberlea Wagner, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Keystone Heights' defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Fleming Island, their win bumped their record up to 10-6.
Keystone Heights' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fleming Island hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. It's a different story for Keystone Heights, though, as they've only averaged .250. Will they be able to contain Fleming Island's hitters?
