The Natalia Mustangs will square off against the Cotulla Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Natalia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Natalia is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Crystal City just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 8-4 to the Javelinas.
Kira Jimenez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Selyene Gallegos, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Cotulla entered their tilt with Lytle on Tuesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Pirates.
Christlyn Munoz spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bella Linares was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Sienna Arevalo was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.
Cotulla's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Natalia, their loss dropped their record down to 18-7-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Natalia has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cotulla struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Natalia came up short against Cotulla when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 7-4. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
