The Wolfson Wolfpack will take on the Riverside Generals at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Wolfson managed to slip by St. Augustine the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wolfpack came up short against the Yellow Jackets on Wednesday, falling 11-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wolfpack have suffered since February 25th.
Wolfson saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Justin Delancy, Jr, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that Delancy, Jr hit this season.
Meanwhile, Riverside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of ED White.
Josh Skipper was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those four hits allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Ricky Torres stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Rylan Covington, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Riverside's loss dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Wolfson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.
Riverside's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Wolfson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Riverside, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Wolfson keep running through batters, or will the Generals buck the trend?
Wolfson was able to grind out a solid win over Riverside in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 6-2. Will the Wolfpack repeat their success, or do the Generals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
