Woodsville is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Gorham is on a six-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Engineers will host the Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Monday, Woodsville made easy work of Lin-Wood and carried off a 12-2 victory.
Meanwhile, Gorham got the win against Moultonborough Academy on Monday by a conclusive 17-1. The win continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won seven in a row.
Mason Roberge and Kasey Guilmette made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Roberge tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Guilmette pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Roberge got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Guilmette got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That double was Roberge's first of the season.
In other batting news, Isaac Langlois was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last seven games he's played. Jack Saladino was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Gorham hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in six consecutive matches.
Woodsville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Gorham, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
Woodsville came out on top in a nail-biter against Gorham when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Engineers repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
