The Laurel Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Bladensburg Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Laurel will be strutting in after a win while Bladensburg will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Friday, Laurel never let their opponents score. They took down Northwestern 18-0. Laurel didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this win makes it their second in a row.
King james Corbett and Nathan Watkins were among the main playmakers for Laurel as the former rushed for 64 yards on only seven carries and the latter rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Laurel's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB nine times. It was a group effort, with three picking up two apiece.
Meanwhile, Bladensburg fell victim to Oxon Hill's stalwart defense on Saturday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Clippers, falling 48-0. Bladensburg was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Laurel's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Bladensburg, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Laurel was dealt a bruising 44-0 loss at the hands of Bladensburg in their previous meeting back in October of 2016. Can Laurel avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
