Mulvane (Kan.) and
Maize South (Wichita, Kan.) both received superb games from their defenses, but Mulvane was able to break through the stalemate for a 7-0 win.
The Wildcats scored on a passing touchdown to pull out the win.
The lead that Mulvane took on a touchdown catch by
Alex Evans with 7:00 to go in the second quarter stood up for the duration of the game, as neither team managed to score in the second half.
MHS's most effective player was Evans. The senior tight end caught one touchdown. He has now scored 16 touchdowns on the season.
The Wildcats went into the matchup giving up only 16.3 points per game. The Mavericks' zero points were below their season average of 6.1 per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 43-13 win for Mulvane.
The loss snapped Maize South's 3-game winning streak. With the win MHS extended its winning streak to four games.
