The Baker County Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 34 points or more this season. They blew past Union County 58-23 on the road. Given Baker County's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while Union County is ranked 607th), the result on Monday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Yamise Haygood was her usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with nine steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Baker County's points. Another player making a difference was Natalia Strachan, who scored 16 points along with five assists and five steals.
The victory was the fourth in a row for Baker County, bringing their record for this year to 6-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Union County, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Baker County won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Baldwin at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th. Baldwin is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. Union County will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Hamilton County at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Hamilton County is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
