Softball Game Preview: Spanish River Sharks vs. Palm Beach Gardens Gators

The Spanish River Sharks will square off against the Palm Beach Gardens Gators at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Spanish River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

While Spanish River's victory against West Boca Raton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Spanish River skirted past West Boca Raton 5-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Sharks.

Abygail Gonzalez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, Spanish River's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Giselle Portanova, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Adrianna Boucher was another, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Palm Beach Gardens unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wellington.

Sydney Shaffer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

Spanish River's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Palm Beach Gardens, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.

Spanish River skirted past Palm Beach Gardens 5-4 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spanish River since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
