The Slaton Tigers will be playing at home against the Lamesa Tornadoes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Slaton is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
Slaton fell victim to Denver City's stalwart defense on Thursday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 28-0 loss at the hands of the Mustangs.
Lamesa fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They put the hurt on Brownfield with a sharp 41-19 victory on Friday.
Lamesa's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Benito Barrioz, who rushed for 179 yards and three touchdowns. Hector Zamora was another key contributor, rushing for 92 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Slaton's defeat was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7. As for Lamesa, their win on Friday bumped their record up to 2-6.
Slaton might still be hurting after the 56-32 defeat they got from Lamesa in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Slaton, Luke Maritnez (who rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also picked up 54 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time.
