The Jupiter Christian Eagles will take on the Marathon Dolphins at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Jupiter Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Jupiter Christian is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Somerset Academy - Canyons on Tuesday. They fell 4-1 to the Cougars. Eagles fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cougars since on Tuesday.
Carter Scott was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (two).
At the plate, Jupiter Christian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Schulz, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Marathon entered their tilt with Berean Christian on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 14-0 shutout. Considering the Dolphins have won nine matches by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Roco Piscetello looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Curren Nicolay was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Leal, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Marathon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
This is the second loss in a row for Jupiter Christian and nudges their season record down to 8-7. As for Marathon, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Jupiter Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Marathon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Jupiter Christian's way against Marathon in their previous meeting back in March of 2016, as Jupiter Christian made off with a 7-1 win. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dolphins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
