The Bridges Prep Buccaneers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 63-37 defeat at the hands of Bethune-Bowman. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Bridges Prep in their matchups with Bethune-Bowman: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, Bridges Prep still got an impressive performance from Zariyah Henry, who scored eight points along with 17 rebounds and three steals. Henry has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Makayla Lapp was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Bridges Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bethune-Bowman only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Bethune-Bowman was led to victory by Zaniyah Pelzer and Cha'Myri Boneparte. Pelzer scored 15 points along with eight steals, while Boneparte scored 21 points along with seven rebounds. Pelzer continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Diana Zeigler, who scored five points along with four steals.
Bridges Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Bethune-Bowman, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bridges Prep will take on Bamberg-Ehrhardt at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Bamberg-Ehrhardt will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for Bethune-Bowman, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Whale Branch at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Whale Branch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Wednesday.
