The Bernards Mountaineers will venture away from home to challenge the South Hunterdon Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. South Hunterdon took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Bernards, who comes in off a win.
South Hunterdon will be up against a hot Bernards team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Mountaineers came out on top against Gill St. Bernard's by a score of 9-5 on Tuesday. With that win, the Mountaineers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Gabby Mongo was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Brooke Helpinstill was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Lily Greco was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Bernards kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when South Hunterdon faced off against Middlesex on Wednesday. The Eagles came up short against the Bluejays, falling 16-3. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Bluejays: they've now lost three in a row.
South Hunterdon saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carin Gallagher, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
South Hunterdon's defeat dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Bernards, their record is now 12-10.
Bernards couldn't quite get it done against South Hunterdon in their previous matchup back in May of 2021 as they fell 6-2. Can the Mountaineers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
