Basketball Recap: Grand Island Takes a Loss

Grand Island came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They took a blow against the Papillion-LaVista South Titans, falling 69-36. The defeat continues a trend for the Islanders in their meetings with the Titans: they've now lost four in a row.

Several Islanders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Victor Fisher Jr., who shot 50% from the field to rack up 15 points. Fisher Jr.'s big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Riley Holling, who posted six points.

Papillion-LaVista South had a senior duo take command as Reece Kircher went 7-for-11 en route to 20 points and seven assists and Bryson Bahl shot 58% from the field on his way to 16 points along with eight boards and five steals. That's the most steals Bahl has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Webb, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 13 points.

Grand Island's loss dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Papillion-LaVista South, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-3 record this season.

Grand Island does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Papillion-LaVista South, they will face off against Papillion-LaVista at 1:30 p.m. on March 12th. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Papillion-LaVista sitting on seven straight victories and Papillion-LaVista South on 13.
