Alva is 2-7 against Perry since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Alva Goldbugs will look to defend their home field against the Perry Maroons at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Oklahoma (Alva is ranked 128th, while Perry is ranked 144th).
Last Friday, Alva suffered a rough 41-21 defeat at the hands of Oklahoma Christian.
Despite the loss, Alva got a solid performance out of Cambell Gaisford, who rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 135 yards and a touchdown while completing 72.7% of his passes. Gaisford was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 68 yards. Another player making a difference was Aiden Kimberlin, who picked up 103 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Perry fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They snuck past Chisholm with a 12-8 win on Friday.
Perry can attribute much of their success to Whelan Carson, who picked up 190 receiving yards and a touchdown. Jaxson Cunningham was another key player, having thrown for 251 yards and zerotouchdown.
Alva now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Perry, their victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Alva has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 162.9 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Perry, though, as they've been averaging only 89 per game. How will Perry fare against such a dominant running game?
Alva and Perry were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, but Alva came up empty-handed after a 13-12 defeat. Will Alva have more luck at home instead of on the road?
