Basketball Recap: Western's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

After a string of six wins, Western's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a hard 60-45 fall against the Perry Meridian Falcons. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Panthers came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while the Falcons are ranked 253rd).

Western lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Carter Biggs, who posted 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Thurston, who had 11 points and six rebounds.

Perry Meridian was led to victory by Braydon Hohlt and Bryce Mathis. Hohlt went 6 of 10 on his way to 17 points and six rebounds, while Mathis put up 12 points and eight assists. Hohlt is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Sterlin Lewis was another key player, putting up ten points.

Western's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Perry Meridian, they moved to 3-6 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Western didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-39 loss against Indianapolis Metropolitan on the 28th. As for Perry Meridian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-62 defeat against Mooresville on the 28th.
