The North Wilkes Vikings entered their tilt with the Surry Central Golden Eagles with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. North Wilkes walked away with a 47-36 win over Surry Central on Friday. Given North Wilkes' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Surry Central is ranked 197th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Golden Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Layla Wall, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Wall has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jenna Cave, who scored five points along with five steals.
North Wilkes has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season. As for Surry Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Wilkes will take on Forbush at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Wilkes is coming into the game with five straight victories at home, so Forbush is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. Surry Central will take on North Surry at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Surry Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
