The Burrell Bucs will square off against the Leechburg Blue Devils at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
The home team had come away the winner the last six times Burrell and Shady Side Academy had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Bucs fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 7-5 on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Bucs in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost five in a row.
Colton Whitlock was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Rayden Shirey made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Adam Wass, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Leechburg). They were the clear victors by a 19-1 margin over Summit Academy on Monday. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Cameron Shimer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Shimer was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dylan Kapalka, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Rocco Vigna was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Leechburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .771. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Leechburg's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Burrell, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8.
Burrell got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against Leechburg by a conclusive 9-1 score. Do the Bucs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
