The Alvin Yellowjackets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their seventh straight defeat. They took a 41-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Alief Hastings. Alvin was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Alief Hastings apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the defeat, Alvin saw an underclassman step up: Evan Falcon almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Falcon, who scored nine points.
Alvin struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They are winless (0-5) when they just don't pass the ball.
Alief Hastings' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Victor Okeke led the charge by scoring eight points along with six rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Wembo Fernandes, who scored two points along with four steals.
Alvin has not been sharp recently as the team has lost 13 of their last 14 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-23 record this season. As for Alief Hastings, their win ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-22.
Alvin will take on Dawson at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Alvin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Saturday. As for Alief Hastings, they will head out on the road to take on Pearland at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Alief Hastings is coming into the matchup with ten straight victories on the road, so Pearland is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
