Venice is a perfect 10-0 against Port Charlotte since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Indians will welcome the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Venice is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Venice is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Charlotte just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against the Fightin' Tarpons, falling 8-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Indians have suffered since February 27, 2024.
Kinley Rutherford was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Port Charlotte not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 11th. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Bonita Springs. The win was some much needed relief for the Pirates as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Jaylin Pinedo spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, Port Charlotte let Jacqueline Kirk and Brianna Weidner run wild. Kirk scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Weidner scored two runs while going 1-for-3. What's more, Kirk posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February. Juliana Parolisi was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Port Charlotte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Port Charlotte's victory bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Venice, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.
Port Charlotte's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Venice hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .360. It's a different story for Port Charlotte, though, as they've only averaged .221. Will they be able to contain Venice's hitters?
Everything went Venice's way against Port Charlotte in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, as Venice made off with an 11-0 win. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
